Although the internet buyer certainly needs to be protected from the occasional tricks of less trustworthy sellers (that’s what this whole website is about!), there’s no reason to treat online buyers as total fools. However, the governments of various countries seem to think their citizens are morons, and are beginning to require websites like mine to post something called an “Affiliate status disclosure”.
Of course, being a law abiding citizen I comply, and I must admit that I’m also a bit amused by these things. Anyway, here comes my very own affiliate status disclosure:
“You should assume that the owner of this website has an affiliate relationship and/or another material connection with providers of goods and services mentioned on this website and may be compensated when you purchase from a provider.”
I bet you hadn’t guessed that, had you (wide grin)?! When I sell something, I get paid for it! And now we’re all waiting for the government instructing your friendly neighborhood icecream vendor to print on the sides of his van: “You should assume that the owner of this vehicle earns a tiny bit of money when you purchase a cone or sundae”. Sorry guys, it’s not me who thinks you’re utterly daft and completely moronic cretins – it’s your government.
